The 4th and 5th graders had the opportunity to try out for a jump rope contest as school. The top 10 boys and girls in forward and backward jumping compete against their same sex and grade. The top 2 would then go and compete with the top 2 from some of the other elementary schools in the area.
Braden tried out for forward jumping and was the runner up. Next he tried out for backward jumping and came in second place. That started a jumping frenzy at our house. Every day for weeks he asked us to time him and he made a chart to graph his results. He figured he averaged about 140-145 jumps in a minute. At the competition they take the total of two jumps and add them together. He wanted to make sure he knew he would do well. He came in first place at the Lake Ridge elementary school competition and a few weeks later came in first again at the multi-school competition (with a total of 320 jumps).
One of the things I love about Braden is that when he decides to do something he does whatever he can to make sure he will be happy with the end result. We have told him that if he is prepared and practiced and he loses, he can still hold his head high. You can never be disappointed if you've done your best.
