What a cool city! It is a mix of a modern and ancient city. The homes and businesses are built in the center of the city blocks with a tall, cement wall seperating the street and sidewalk from the property. The street is beautifully lain rock/cobblestone and is only wide enough for two cars to drive side by side. The sidewalks were wide enough for us to walk single file, next to the tall cement wall. The walls go the full length of the block and they seperate property lines by a different color of paint. The dirtiness of the walls make the city look old and run down. That is, until you walk through the doors. It is so lush and beautiful inside. We were in a hurry to see as much as possible but we could help slow down as we took in all the tile work, carvings, fountains and greenery. The shopping area was pretty cool, too!
The construction of all the cathedrals were awe-inspiring. In fact, we didn't have enough time to see them all.
We had the pleasure of eating dinner at Casa Santa Domingo Hotel. It happens to be the only 5-star hotel/restaurant in all of Central America and is rated in the top 50 in the world. The food was fabulous and the surroundings were better than those out of a Better Homes and Gardens magazine.
